Dave Palmquist is a 1986 graduate of Bethel University, and has been a head coach for 26 years. Nineteen of those years have been as head coach of the highly successful South St Paul Packers Girls Hockey team. His coaching success at South St Paul is without equal in girl’s high school hockey. He has coached his Packer teams to 4 Minnesota State Titles. His South St Paul teams have won 9 conference titles, and have been in the state tournament 13 times. Including his 7 years as the boy’s coach at Minnehaha Academy, he has 483 career wins over his 26 years of coaching. Dave is currently the longest active coach in girls high school hockey history. He was Coach of the Year in 1999, and 2001, and Section Coach of the year in 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2010. He coached in Minnesota’s first high school girls hockey game. In 2002, one of his players, Ashley Albrecht was named Ms Hockey, and 19 other Division I hockey players, along with many more in Division III, have come through his program. His teams hold a state record 86 game winning streak. Dave is a USA Hockey Certified instructor, and he also works as a TV Analyst for Channel 45 during the Boy’s State Hockey Tournament. Dave’s involvement in MGHCA includes his time as President, (1997-1999), Section Rep. (over a 4 year period), and the Coach's Mentoring Committee (2006-2008). Dave has described himself as a ‘lifetime’ coach, and is one of 3 active coaches, whose contributions and accomplishments warrant entry into our first group of MGHCA Hall of Fame Inductees’. Dave and his wife Karen have 4 children. They are Josh, Zach, (a defenseman at Mankato), Luke and Abby(a member of the Packer Girl’s Team). Dave, we are honored to have you in the Hall of Fame!
