MANKATO — The Owatonna girls hockey team clinched its second straight Big Nine Conference title.

Owatonna defeated Mankato West 4-2 on Tuesday at the All Seasons Arena. The win improved the Huskies’ record to 10-0 in the Big Nine and 16-4 overall. The 10 conference wins are worth a conference-winning 28 points. Mayo could still tie Owatonna for the title, just like last season. The Huskies need only one win or tie in their final three games, which include a road game at  Mayo on Jan. 29, to win the title outright. Owatonna has now won seven conference titles.

“They’re excited,” said OHS coach Tim Hunst. “The nice part is they’re not satisfied. They know the job is not done. They want to make sure they continue to get better and continue to win.”

In Thursday’s win, the Huskies scored three third-period goals to break open a 1-1 game. Abby Sawyer, Emily Cochran and Cailyn McCauley scored in the third period. McCauley now has 23 goals and 31 assists on the season.

Paige Lysne scored her 20th goal of the season in the first period to give Owatonna a 1-0 lead.

Keshia Reuvers has now allowed two or fewer goals in a game 11 times this season.

Owatonna plays Section 1AA rival Lakeville North at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Four Seasons Centre. If the Huskies win their 11th straight game, it will be a school record.

Owatonna scoring: First period: 1, Paige Lysne (Cailyn McCauley, Abby Sawyer) 8:30 pp. Second period: none. Third period: 2, Sawyer (McCauley, Lysne) :27 pp. 3, Emily Cochran (Aimee Goodew) 6:22. 4, McCauley (Payton Noble) 12:20. Owatonna goalie: Keshia Reuvers (23 saves).
