Huskies win ninth straight

OWATONNA — Paige Lysne had a career day to lead the Owatonna girls hockey team to its ninth consecutive victory.

OWATONNA — Paige Lysne had a career day to lead the Owatonna girls hockey team to its ninth consecutive victory.

Lysne scored four goals as Owatonna beat the River Lakes Stars 5-2 in a nonconference game at the Four Seasons Centre.

The game was tied 1-1 going into the third period. Lysne broke the deadlock with her second goal with 8:23 left in the game. Cailyn McCauley scored a little more than a minute later to make it 3-1.

The Stars (5-13-1) cut the lead to one with a goal with 3:24 on the clock. River Lakes then pulled the goalie in the final minute in a push to tie it up.

Lysne took advantage and potted two empty-net goals to get the hat trick plus one. Lysne is second on the team with 19 goals and 19 assists this season. McCauley, who also had two assists Saturday, leads the Huskies (15-4) with 22 goals and 29 helpers.

Payton Noble dished out two assists Saturday and has 13 goals and 16 assists this season.

Keshia Reuvers stopped 23 shots to get her 13th victory of the season. OHS out-shot River Lakes 53-23.

The Huskies play again at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato West. If the Huskies beat the Scarlets, Owatonna will be one win away from clinching its second straight Big Nine title.
