Hill-Murray takes a 3-2 victory over 4th ranked Stillwater Sports Girls hockey: Hill-Murray trips up Ponies By STUART GROSKREUTZ gztsport@acnpapers.com Published: Wednesday, December 1, 2010 6:01 PM CST

MAPLEWOOD - Hannah Brandt notched her second goal in the final minutes of Saturday's nonconference girls' hockey game to send Hill-Murray to a 3-2 victory over Stillwater at Aldrich Arena. It was the first loss of the season for the fourth-ranked Ponies (3-1), who outshot the Pioneers 22-13. Brandt notched her first goal less than four minutes into the game and Hill-Murray extended its lead to 2-0 on a goal from Margo Lund midway through the second period. Stillwater eventually broke through when Allison Eder-Zdechlik scored on assists by Sammi Reiter and Dana Lucker-Milan just one minute into the third period to pull within 2-1. The Ponies evened the score at 7:35 when Hannah Okerstrom scored on assists by Sara Bustad and Lucker-Milan. "We really felt like we played well," Stillwater coach Tony Scheid said. "We thought we had the upper hand most of the game and couldn't get any bounces early. We kept working and showed a lot of good persistence and finally we had some pucks fall in for us in the third period." Stillwater's third-period surge began must moments after killing off a penalty to start the period. "We had to kill that penalty and just keep trying to put pressure on and everything fell into place," Scheid said. "We killed the penalty and had good flow going and were playing with a lot of energy and confidence. We felt like we had the puck down there the whole period." Brandt, however spoiled Stillwater's comeback bid while scoring at 15:29 of the third period for the game-winner. "The story of the game was that every time we made a mistake, they made us pay for it," Scheid said. "They scored on a faceoff. The puck went loose in front of the net and all five players took a step to the puck and they snuck a player in behind on the back door." Stillwater 0 0 2 - 2 Hill-Murray 1 1 1 - 3 First period - 1.
