Red Wing was one of three Class A teams in the state to finish the season with a victory.

The Wingers secured the consolation championship of the state tournament by beating Hutchinson 5-4 Saturday at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

The Wingers were leading 5-2 after two periods.

"We kind of fell apart a little bit in the third and gave them hope," Red Wing coach Scott Haley said. "The last nine minutes we tightened the ship and played well."

Paige Haley scored two goals, tallied two assists and was named to the all-tournament team. Lisa Nibbe got the start in goal and made 33 saves.

Freshman Nicole Schammel had a three-point game (1 goal, 2 assists). Her season total of 41 goals -- the ninth most in the state -- gives her the Red Wing single-season record.

The Wingers finish the season with a 16-13-1 record.
