Eveleth-Gilbert players were on the verge of exhaustion after two periods in their Class 1A quarterfinal Wednesday night against Red Wing, so the players opened the doors to the locker room at Xcel Energy Center and took their jerseys off to cool down.

The Golden Bears came out in the third period with renewed vigor, scoring three goals in a 3:11 span of the final period to win 5-2 for their first state tournament victory in three chances after going 0-2 in 2009.
