Red Wing’s penalty kill unit kept Dodge County off the board on all eight of its power plays and goalie Quinn McGough made 23 saves as the Wingers earned a 4-1 home win Saturday. McGough, one of three seniors on the team, was given the start in Red Wing’s final regular season game of the year and she made the most of it. “I thought she played unbelievable,” Wingers coach Scott Haley said. “She looked really solid. We’re really fortunate to have Quinn and Lisa (Nibbe).” Nicole Schammel scored a pair of goals, including a short-handed tally, for Red Wing. Emily Stegora and Paige Haley also found the back of the net. Reagan Haley assisted on three of the goals. Red Wing improved to 12-12-1 with the win. The Wingers enter the Section 1A tournament having won four of their last five games. “It’s big to get to .500,” coach Haley said. “(Dodge County) beat Northfield twice and Faribault once. They beat quality opponents in the section.” Red Wing will learn its postseason draw at the section seed meeting tomorrow.
