LAKEVILLE — In a penalty-filled game, the fourth-ranked Cougars scored two short-handed goals to beat Owatonna in the final regular season game of the season.

“It was a very physical game, and both teams were playing very hard,” OHS coach Tim Hunst said. “The girls just wanted to go out there and go toe-to-toe, and they did that. They fought like crazy, and I told them after the game I am proud to be their coach.”

The loss likely sends the Huskies (19-6 overall) to the No. 4 seed in the Section 1AA Tournament, which begins on Friday for the Huskies.

The Huskies lost to South, Lakeville North and Farmington, the probable top three seeds.

If OHS is the No. 4 seed and wins its quarterfinal game, it will most likely play at top-seeded South again in the semifinals on Feb. 15.

“I’m kind of hoping we get another shot at them,” Hunst said.

Paige Lysne scored for Owatonna on a 4-on-3 power play with assists from Cailyn McCauley and Kelsey Rohrig, to pull within 2-1. Keshia Reuvers stopped 45 shots in goal.

South (21-2-2) out-shot Owatonna 48-17.
