OWATONNA — Thirteen up and 13 down for the Owatonna girls hockey team.

The Huskies celebrated Senior Night by finishing their Big Nine Conference schedule undefeated for the first time since 2003. Owatonna defeated Winona 9-1 on Thursday night at the Four Seasons Centre to finish off the season sweep of conference foes.

Seniors Cailyn McCauley, Paige Lysne and Aimee Goodew scored goals in their last regular season home game.

“It was great,” Goodew said. “I haven’t scored a goal in awhile. Just to go out there on Senior Night and get a goal was a great way to cap off the year.”

Owatonna coach Tim Hunst started all six seniors. To fit center Taylor Disher and forwards Genny Caswell and Goodew in the lineup with goalie Keshia Reuvers, Hunst moved normal starting forwards McCauley and Lysne to defense.

“It’s a tough night as a coach,” Hunst said. “These are kids that have been around for a long time and have made huge contributions on the ice and in the locker room. This Senior Night is a tough one; they are awesome kids.”

Owatonna improved to 19-5 overall. The 19 wins should give the Huskies a home playoff game on Feb. 11.

“My emotions are everywhere,” Goodew said. “It’s great because we’re having a fantastic season and it’s been a lot of fun, but sad because it’s coming to an end, and I’m going to miss them.”

It wasn’t just the seniors that had a big night. Junior Emily Cochran scored Owatonna’s first goal. Ninth-grader Abby Sawyer scored twice and her classmate Payton Noble scored once. Sophomore Lauren Spatenka had two assists and scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Kelsey Rohrig opened the second period with a goal.

On Saturday, Owatonna will face No. 4-ranked Lakeville South at 2:45 p.m. in Lakeville.
