Pannek-Reilly-Wheeler line is key to victory

The Red Knights slugged it out with previously unbeaten Irondale in a battle for first place in the North Suburban Conference, winning 3-2.  It was a tight game throughout with neither team able to dominate or sustain much momentum.  The victory gave BSM sole possession of first place in the conference, staying unbeaten at 6-0 in conference play.

Irondale got the only goal of the first period on a shot by their top sniper, Meghan Lorence. BSM answered with 2 goals in the 2nd period, both coming from top scorer Kelly Pannek (her 18th and 19th goals of the season).  Defensemen Jordyn Burns assisted on the first goal and Sara Taffe assisted on the second goal.

The Red Knight lead of 2-1 was short lived in the third period as Meghan Lorence scored again just 41 seconds into the period to tie the score.  After Irondale was whistled for a cross checking penalty, BSM made them pay scoring on the powerplay by Brittany Wheeler with the assist going to Caitlin Reilly at the 5:28 mark.  This proved to be the game winning goal.  Tiana Press was in net and earned her 11th victory of the season.  Shots for the game were 27-25 in favor of the Red Knights.  BSM will next take on conference rival Totino-Grace on Friday night at the SLP arena.  This game will also be honoring the outgoing Red Knight senior class:  Jordyn Burns, Taylor Curtiss, Amy Johnson, Kathryn Martin, and Tiana Press.
