OWATONNA — Kelsey Rohrig scored her first career goal and helped the Owatonna girls hockey team strengthen its grip on the Big Nine Conference.

The Huskies scored early and went on to beat Rochester JM/Lourdes 4-0 on Thursday at the Four Seasons Centre.

“Everyone was pretty excited to see Kelsey score there,” OHS coach Tim Hunst said. “That was good to see her get one in.”

It was the second time in a row OHS beat the Rockets 4-0.

Taylor Disher, Paige Lysne and Aimee Goodew also scored for OHS (6-0 Big Nine, 9-4 overall), which now has a two-game lead in the Big Nine standings.

“We squeaked by in our last game, so it was nice to get out early,” OHS coach Tim Hunst said. “We jumped on them in the first period. It’s been a while since we’ve done that, so we’re pretty happy about that.”

Keshia Reuvers stopped 23 shots to get her third shutout of the season, including two against the Rockets (5-41, 9-5-1).

Owatonna has two four-point Big Nine games next week at Century on Tuesday and at Mankato East on Thursday.

OHS scoring: Kelsey Rohrig (Shelby Noble); Paige Lysne (Paige Radue); Taylor Disher (Genny Caswell, Rohrig); Aimee Goodew (sh).
