Sara Taffe's 2 assists lead BSM over Totino-Grace

BSM opened conference play with a powerful performance defeating Totino-Grace 5-1.  The Red Knights outshot the Eagles 50-18, and scored 4 powerplay goals.  Eagles goalie Brittany Fussy prevented the game from being a high scoring rout.  BSM wasted little time flexing their muscles as they scored just 2:36 into the contest on a shot by Kelly Pannek, with the assist going to Jordyn Burns.  Just about a minute and a half later, Cat Kernan’s second goal of the season put the Red Knights up 2-0 on feeds from Laura Minkoff and Aly Hoffman.  This turned out to be the game winning goal and the only goal scored by BSM at even strength on the night.  BSM added another goal later in the period on the first of 2 goals by Caitlin Reilly.  Anne Arnason and Sara Taffe teamed on the assists.  The period was also a penalty filled contest as 7 infractions were whistled. The penalties continued in the second period as another 5 players were called.  There were 17 penalties handed out for the game.  BSM scored the only goal of the second period by Caitlin Reilly (team leading 11th goal) with Kelly Pannek and Jordyn Burns getting the assists at the 2:31 mark.  This was Pannek’s team leading 10th assist of the season.  The Red Knights added 1 more goal in the third period by Kelly Pannek.  The tandem of Anne Arnason and Sara Taffe assisted again on the final BSM goal.  Eagle captain Caroline Ponessa scored with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest to spoil the shutout.  Tiana Press played a solid game in net to earn the victory.  The Red Knights travel to take on St. Francis next Thursday night.
