Blake wins overtime thriller with shootout goal

BSM and Blake played an exciting game that took a shootout to decide the champion of the Cake Eater tournament.  Abbie Lund scored the only shootout goal to give Blake a 4-3 victory over the Red Knights. Per the MSHSL, games that are not decided in regulation or in an overtime period are officially recorded as a tie, so although Blake won the game in a shootout 4-3, the official final score was a 3-3 tie.

The Red Knights opened the scoring at 11:10 of the first period on a shot from Caitlin Reilly from feeds from Anne Arnason and Aly Hoffman.  There was no further scoring until the 3rd period.  BSM was clinging to a 1-0 lead when the scoring fireworks took over in the third period.  Dani Cameranesi scored the tying goal for Blake on the powerplay at 1:07 of the period and Blake scored again just a minute later to take a 2-1 lead.  The Red Knights answered at 4:14 of the period when Jordyn Burns took a pass from Laura Minkoff and raced the length of the ice for the equalizer.  BSM took the lead about 2 minutes later when Anne Arnason found the back of the net, with the assists going to Sara Taffe and Caitlin Reilly.  The Red Knights tried to hold off the Bears, but Abbie Lund scored the game tying goal for Blake with just 4 seconds remaining in the game.  Neither team was able to score in the overtime period and the game was decided by a shootout.  Shots for the game were 42-37 in favor of the Red Knights.  Tiana Press had a solid game in net.  BSM will next travel north next weekend to take on Grand Rapids and Cloquet.
