Up 4-3 with less than a minute left, Red Wing looked like it would notch another non-conference win on Saturday against Irondale.

But the 10th-ranked (2A) Knights managed to save their best for last, pulling off a 5-4 overtime victory over the fourth-ranked (1A) Wingers at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.

With 35 seconds left in regulation, Alex Toupal tied the game up, beating Red Wing goaltender Ashley Corcoran with her third goal of the game. Greta Nundahl and Samantha Donovan each were credited with assists on the play.

At the 1:30 mark of overtime, Maddie Hentges, who scored a second-period goal, got a pass from Donovan and popped in the game-winner to bump the Knights’ record to 14-5 overall. Goalie Anna Pate had 33 saves in the victory.

Katelyn Hadler, Reagan Haley, Emily Stegora and Nicole Schammel each scored goals for a Red Wing offense that outshot Irondale 37-34. Haley and Schammel each had two assists, and Caitie Turcotte and Kayla Oberding each tacked on an assist from the blue line.

Red Wing (12-6) has another top-20 challenge on Tuesday when it travels to 17th-ranked (1A) New Prague. Then on Thursday, the Wingers look to avenge their only Missota Conference loss of the year when they play host to Chaska/Chanhassen.
