Girls Hockey: Red Wing loses in tourney semis

Marissa Odell scored twice, the last of which proved the difference in a 3-2 Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper victory over Red Wing. Reagan Haley and Nicole Schammel each scored second-period goals, but the Wingers could not find the equalizer after falling behind 3-0 early in the second period.

Mari Verbeten opened the scoring just 22 seconds into the game on an even strength, unassisted goal. Odell scored at 8:17 of the first to give Robbinsdale a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Odell scored again at 6:39 of the second before Haley (8:14) and Schammel (10:39) got the Wingers to within a goal. 

Maddy Hardyman and Kayla Oberding assisted on Haley’s goal, while Haley and Emily Stegora helped Schammel find the back of the net.

Ashley Corcoran made 31 saves in the loss as Red Wing was outshot 34-29.

Robbinsdale (8-6-1) heads into the finals today against Anoka, while the Wingers (10-4-0) will look ahead to the third-place game against Champlin Park.
