Despite outshooting Champlin Park 36-21, Red Wing had trouble putting the puck in the net in a 2-1 loss in the third-place game of the Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper holiday tournament on Saturday.

With just three seconds left in the first period, the Rebels got on the board when Kaylee Wood put the puck past Wingers goaltender Anna Vagasky for a power-play goal. Sydney Peluf and Maggie Cragg each tallied assists on the play.

Then at the 9:05 mark of the second period, Champlin Park made it a two-goal lead when Cragg added an even-strength goal off an assist from Peluf.

In an effort to come back, Red Wing went on an all-out assault on offense in the third period. Nicole Schammel finally got the Wingers on the board with her 29th goal of the season. Reagan Haley and Hailee Johnson were credited with assists on the play.

But despite outshooting the Rebels 16-8 in the final period, Red Wing was unable to tie the game up. Champlin Park goalie Hannah Goettl stopped 35 of 36 shots in the game.

The Wingers (10-5-0) are back in Missota Conference action on Friday when Northfield comes to Prairie Island Arena. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
