Not only did the Red Wing girls hockey team have to overcome a first-period deficit, the Wingers had to deal with a two-goal disadvantage 44 seconds into the second period. But the dynamic trio of Emily Stegora, Nicole Schammel and Reagan Haley totaled five points, including a goal each,

in a 3-2 victory over Shakopee Thursday evening.

The Sabers scored the only goal of the opening frame when Ashly Larson beat Ashley Corcoran 4 minutes, 19 seconds into the game. Tristen Truax doubled the Shakopee lead 44 seconds into the second period before Stegora got the Wingers on the board on an unassisted goal at 8:58. Schammel would tie the game five seconds later on a feed from Haley.

The game-winning goal came at 10:21 of the third when Haley buried a pass from Schammel, giving Red Wing its fifth win in as many games. Corcoran made 17 saves to get the win in net.

The Wingers will host New Prague (3-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, then visit Chaska/Chanhassen Thursday.
