With just over two minutes remaining in the first period of Friday’s game against Prior Lake, the Red Wing girls hockey team found itself in an odd situation.

For the first time all season, the Wingers trailed.

Brooke Ranagan scored the game’s first goal 14 minutes, 59 seconds into the first period, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

But Reagan Haley would score 53 seconds later to even the game. Haley scored again at 13:04 of the second period to give Red Wing a lead it would not relinquish.

Nicole Schammel would add three goals -- two in the second and one in the third -- to provide the final margin of victory at 5-1.

Haley added assists on Schammel’s final two goals while Emily Stegora assisted on all five of Red Wing’s scores.

Ashley Corcoran made 26 saves to pick up the victory, her fourth in as many games.

The Wingers out-shot the Lakers, 46-27, and also took more penalty minutes, 14-10.

Red Wing will host Totino-Grace at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
