Cardinal girls tame Bulldogs

The Luverne girls ran their hockey record to 2-0 with an impressive home performance against Le Sueur-Henderson- St. Peter Saturday.

Sparked by an offensive eruption the included LHS scoring six goals in the first 7:51 of the game, the Cardinals strolled to a commanding 11-2 victory over the Bulldogs.

Makayla Sterrett led the charge by scoring four goals, while Madison Crabtree, Mariah Aukes and Madisyn Dingmann chipped in two goals each.

Aukes and Madi Oye led an LHS team that outshot L-H-SP 38-13 by recording four and two assists respectively.

The Cardinals put the game away early by scoring six goals in a span of 4:33 in the opening period.

Sterrett opened the scoring at the 13:42 mark and Dingmann added a tally 1:03 later to make it 2-0.

Aukes and Madi Oye scored one goal each 58 seconds apart to up Luverne’s lead to 4-0.

Sterrett netted an unassisted tally at the 10-minute mark of the stanza before Crabtree capped the six-goal run with her first tally with 9:09 remaining in the stanza.

L-H-SP’s Chole Bachman snapped the run by scoring with 5:04 remaining in the first period, but the Cards scored four unanswered goals in the second period to open a 10-1 advantage.

Aukes opened the scoring 1:15 into the second period before Sterrett added a pair of unassisted tallies (the second goal was a power-play tally).

Dingmann ended the scoring in the second period with 4:33 remaining in the stanza.

L-H-SP’s Chelsea Kaelberer scored 1:40 into the third period before Crabtree netted the game’s final goal with 14:30 left to play.

Emilie Bartels recorded 11 saves in net for the Cards, who receive one assist each from Sterrett, Dingmann and Carly Serie.

Luverne plays Northern Lakes in Long Prairie Friday.
