MN Seniors Win NIT Title

The Minnesota Senior Girls won their 3rd consecutive NIT title by defeating Team Wisconsin in a shoot-out thriller. Wisconsin took an early lead in the game scoring two first period goals. Minnesota came back with two second period goals from Ashley Kloncz and Emilie Brigham to tie the game. The Minnesota Seniors outshot Wisconsin 21-9 in the third and overtime period sending the game to the shoot-out. Wisconsin took a 1-0 lead in the shoot-out on a great goal by Theresa Knutson. Amy Petersen tied the score at 1-1 sending the game to a sudden death shoot-out. Minnesota scored on their first attempt by Paige Haley and goalie McKenzie Johnson was able to make the final save for the Minnesota Seniors to capture the NIT title. Johnson saved 6 of 7 penalty shots in the overtime shoot-out. The Minnesota Seniors finished the tourney with 4 wins and 1 tie. The Minnesota seniors were coache by Jessica Christopherson and Bill Schafhauser. The Minnesota U18 team captured 3rd place with a 3-2 win over Team North Dakota.
