ST. PAUL— Red Wing built a three-goal lead halfway through Saturday's game, then held off South St. Paul down the stretch for a 3-2 victory in the Class A girls hockey state tournament third-place game on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.

Wingers senior Paige Haley scored the lone goal of the first period, an unassisted tally 3:05 into the game.

Reagan Haley and Emily Stegora scored six minutes apart in the second period, both on power plays, to make it 3-0 Wingers with 9:41 to go in the period.

That was it for Red Wing's scoring.

Lauren Wilcox put South St. Paul on the board at 9:59 of the second, and Riley Viner pulled the Packers within a goal at the 8:20 mark of the third.

But the Wingers defense and sophomore goalie Ashley Corcoran were strong the rest of the way. Corcoran stopped 16 shots in the third period alone, and 31 in the game, as the Wingers were outshot, 33-31.

Paige Haley had a hand in every Wingers goal, recording a pair of assists, and junior Nicole Schammel had one assist.

Red Wing finished the season with a 27-3-0 record.
