Pirates get a first round win with a score of four to zero agains the Park Rapids Panthers

Crookston-The Pirates take a first round win with a score of four to zero against the Park Rapids Panthers.

The Pirates came out strong to start the 2012-2013 Section 8A playoffs on the right foot and try to compete for the Section 8A championship. The Pirates outshot the Panthers big time with posting fifteen shots to Park Rapids four shots on Panthers goaltender Shania Johnson (Jr., Goalie) and Pirate Goaltender Lexie Cormican (8th grade., Goalie) and adding one goal. In the second period the Pirates outshot the Panthers again with the shots being ten to six and adding another goal in the period. In the third period the Pirates outshot the Panthers again by posting another ten shots to Park Rapids one shot and adding two goals to get a total of thirty-five shots total in the game and a score of four to zero. The Panthers did come out against the Pirates and battle but they could not get a puck pasted Pirate goaltender Lexie Cormican (8th grade., Goalie).

The Pirates get there first playoff win bring their overall record to (13-11-0) two games above .500 and their playoff record to (1-0-0). This is the best record for the Pirate so far this year as they have not been much higher than two games above.500 in the 2012-2013 season.

The Pirates advance in the Section 8A playoffs and will be facing the five-time defending Section 8A champions the Warroad Warriors on Monday, February 11, 2013 with the drop of the puck at 6:00pm at the East Grand Forks Civic Center. Following the Pirate/Warrior game will be the number two and number three seeds the Thief River Falls Prowlers and the East Grand Forks Greenwave also battling to get to the Section 8A playoffs to either play the Pirates or the Warriors.

Notes:

The Pirates were lead by Brianna Breiland (Sr., Forward) who had all of the four goals for the Pirates and had no assists. The Pirates were also lead by Lexie Cormican (8th grade., Goalie) who got her third shutout of the season and saving eleven of the Panther shots.

The Panthers were lead by Shania Johnson (Jr., Goalie) who had thirty-one saves for the Panthers and kept the Pirates to only four goals in the game.
