Abby Huber returns to lineup and energizes team to victory

Back on December 7th, Amelia Vosen led the Eagles to a convincing 7-2 win over Chisago Lakes.  Tonight, Abby Huber returned to the starting lineup after being out due to injury since December 13th, and her presence inspired the Eagles to another strong game and victory over the Wildcats.  This game was also parent appreciation night as the players honored their parents before the contest.

The coaches changed up the lines for this game and the team responded by playing with a lot of energy.  At the 10:20 mark of the first period, Molly Adam and Kristen Dellich broke in on Chisago Lakes goaltender Amanda Shoquist on a 2 on 1.  Kristen took the initial shot that was saved, but Molly fired home the rebound for her 6th goal of the season, giving T-G a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats outshot the Eagles in the first period, and they were pressing the attack for the first 4 minutes of the second period as T-G didn’t register their first shot of the middle stanza until the 12:32 mark.  A minute and a half into the period, the Eagles were whistled for a penalty.  T-G goaltender Logan Knip made a key save on Chisago Lakes forward Allison Borgstrom during the Wildcats powerplay to preserve the Eagles lead.  After successfully killing off the penalty, T-G began to seize the momentum.  Abby Huber’s shot at 8:51 put the Eagles up 2-0, with the assist going to Maddy Javorina.  On T-G’s second powerplay opportunity, they cashed in on the man advantage.  Allison Parnell scored her 10th goal of the season from Maddy Javorina (her second assist of the game) and from Laura Minkoff.  For Laura, it was her team leading 13th assist.  The Eagles had a comfortable 3-0 lead after 2 periods.

The Wildcats started off the third period desperately trying to cut into the deficit.  They fired 3 successive point blank shots on Logan Knip 3:03 into the period, and she turned them all away.  T-G responded with a strong rush up the ice as Molly Adam and Amelia Vosen found Kristen Dellich, who put the puck into the back of the net for her team leading 12th goal, increasing the Eagles margin to 4-0.  Allison Parnell added her second goal of the game and 11th of the season to close out the scoring with just 3:59 remaining in the period.  Abby Huber had the assist on the final goal.  Although T-G was outshot 38-25, it was a well-played game by the Eagles.  Logan Knip earned her 4th shutout and 9th victory of the season.

T-G will next host Irondale on Saturday at Parade Ice Garden at 7:30pm.  This game has been designated as teacher appreciation night.
