T-G comes from behind to defeat St. Francis

The Eagles were looking to get back in the win column against St. Francis.  The Fighting Saints entered the contest with a record of 3-9-1 and 0-2-1 in conference play.  This game was much tougher than what it looked like it would be on paper.

The first period did not see any scoring, although St. Francis had the better of the scoring opportunities.  At the 12:59 mark, a defensive turnover deep in the Eagles end turned into a point blank scoring chance for the Fighting Saints that T-G goaltender Logan Knip was able to turn away to keep the game scoreless.

At 3:48 of the second period, St. Francis got on the board on a rebound shot by Katie Sigfrinius.  The Eagles were struggling to sustain offensive pressure.  With 2:43 remaining before the second intermission, Claire Hill let a shot go from the left point that was blocked in front.  Maddy Javorina alertly pounced on the puck and fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the contest at 1.  For Maddy, it was her 4th goal of the season.

In the 3rd period, T-G took advantage of a 3 on 1 break.  Amelia Vosen skated the puck down the right side and fired a shot that was saved by Fighting Saints netminder Dakota Bullen.  Dakota kicked the rebound right to Allison Parnell who was charging to the net and she put the Eagles ahead with her 9th goal of the season.  With just 1:09 remaining, St. Francis forward Jessica St. Marie skated in on a breakaway, but Logan Knip was up to the task to preserve the T-G lead and the victory.  The Eagles outshot the Fighting Saints 25-17 for the game.

T-G will have their work cut out for them as they head to St. Louis Park to take on the 2nd ranked Benilde St. Margaret’s Red Knights on Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Rec Center.
