Crookston- The Pirates split their home tournament with a 4-2 lost to Grand Forks Knightriders and a 7-4 win against Fargo South Bruins to finish the 2012 half of the season.

Grand Forks (4-2 L) 12/17/12:

The Pirates were evenly matched against the Kinghtriders with the score being tied at zero after the first period and then tied at one in the second period but then fell short in the third period when the Knightriders came out and score three goals of which one was an empty net goal to put the Knightriders up 4-2 with thirty seconds reminding in the game to cap a victory over the Pirates.

The Pirates were lead by two players Brianna Breiland (Sr., Forward) and Lizzy Awender (Jr., Forward) both of them had one goal apiece and no assists for the Pirates. The Knightriders were lead by Lexi O’Halloran (Jr., Forward) who had two goals and no assists for the Knightriders. Fargo South (7-4 W) 12/28/12:

The Pirates were ticked off from the previous game against Grand Forks Knightriders for not getting the win so the Pirates came out firing against the Fargo South Bruins with twelve shots in the first, fourteen in the second, and ten in the third to have a total of thirty-six shots on goal for the game with seven goals. Even though the game was a very very physical game for both teams the Pirates escape with a victory to put them above .500 with a record of 7-6-0 to close out the 2012 half of the season.

The Pirates were lead by Brianna Breiland (Sr., Forward) who had three goals and one assists for the Pirates. Others that help the Pirates get the seven to four victory were Natasha Skala (Sr., Defense), Leah Trostad (Fresh., Forward), Lizzy Awender (Jr., Forward), and Abby Parr (Soph., Forward) all had one goal and no assists except for Natasha Skala who had one goal and one assists for the Pirates.

The Bruins were lead by Nevada Wilson (Sr., Forward), Carly Rutter (Sr., Defense), and Alex Woken (Fresh., Forward) all of them had one goal and no assists except for Alex Woken who had one of the two assists for the Bruins.

The teams that participated in the 2nd annual Crookston Holiday Tournament were Crookston, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls JV, Park Rapids Area, Jamestown, Minto, Fargo South, Grand Forks, and Mandan.

With the split in  the 2nd Annual Crookston Holiday Tournament the Pirates played good but were a little sluggish to start out both games this weekend but by the second and third periods the Pirates were out there firing shots and putting in goals to get them above .500 before the first half of the season ended to make for a good start in the second half of the season when they start seeing Section 8A teams again and also Greater Minnesota Conference teams. With that the Pirates had a slow start to the 2012-2013 season with some rough games but they will be looking to bounce back to start a better second half of the season.

The Pirates will start the second half of the season with a Greater Minnesota Conference game against Section 8AA school the Roseau Rams on Thursday, January, 3, 2013 in Roseau, MN at 7:30pm.
