Anna Pate stars in shutout win

The Eagles returned to conference play taking on the Knights up in Blaine.  In a fast paced game, Irondale came away with a 3-0 victory, although the game was much closer than the score indicated, as the Knights scored 1 late goal in each period.

Both teams traded great scoring opportunities throughout the first period.  Irondale's Maddie Rog picked up the puck in the neutral zone and skated in on Logan Knip and hit the post just 2:20 into the contest.  Just over a minute later, Laura Minkoff centered a pass to Amelia Vosen alone in front, but was stoned by Knights goalie Anna Pate.  With 4 minutes left in the period, Molly Adam tried to convert on a breakaway chance but was also stopped by the Knights net minder.  At the 14:40 mark, while killing off an Irondale powerplay, Logan came up big again, making a dazzling skate save on a tip in attempt.  With only 1:19 remaining in the period, the Knights won the draw deep in the Eagles zone and Maddie Rog scored from passes by teammates Sam Donovan and Maddie Hentges.

The second period saw the up and down pace continue, but Irondale had the better of the scoring opportunities.  Sam Donovan let a shot go at the 8:08 mark that Logan somehow got her skate on to keep the puck out of the net.  With just 3:22 left in the middle frame, Sam made sure she didn't miss on Irondale's second powerplay chance to increase the Knights lead to 2-0 after 2.

Early in the third period, T-G was again killing off a penalty and after Logan Knip made another solid save, it looked like Sam Donovan would deposit the rebound, but Molly Adam was able to skate across the slot and tie her up, preventing Sam from putting the puck into the empty net.  This seemed to inspire the Eagles as they started to increase the pressure on Irondale.  On T-G's second powerplay chance, Amelia Vosen fired a shot on Anna Pate and Allison Parnell appeared poised to put in the rebound, but she was tied up and unable to get off the shot. After Logan stopped 2 point blank shots, the Eagles returned a series of scoring flurries, first by Allison Parnell, Amelia Vosen, Laura Minkoff, and Hannah Johnson with just under 5 minutes remaining, followed by Maddy Javorina setting up Kristen Dellich, only to see this chance knocked away at the last second.  At the 14:00 minute mark, Laura Minkoff found Allison Parnell in front of the Knights net, but Anna Pate came up big again.  With just 1:53 left in the contest, Sam Donovan added her second goal of the game to complete the scoring and end the suspense.  Shots for the game were 28-20 in favor of Irondale.  T-G will be circling January 19th on the calendar when they meet the Knights again at Parade Ice Garden.

The Eagles will next face conference foe St. Louis Park at the Rec Center on Friday night at 6:30pm.
