Maddy Javorina nets game-tying goal with 29 seconds remaining

The Eagles and Novas battled for 59 minutes and had to settle for a 1-1 tie.  It was a hard fought game where both teams had great scoring opportunities, but the goaltenders turned away one quality chance after another.

Abby Huber returned to action from an injury and her presence added an extra jump to the team.  Although Minneapolis had the shot advantage in the first period 8-4, the number of quality scoring chances were even.  Kristen Dellich had a breakaway at the 10:24 mark that was turned away by Novas goaltender Kellie Winchell.  Not to be outdone, Logan Knip stopped Minneapolis' top forward Katy Fuller, who came out of the penalty box and broke in all alone with 3:19 remaining in the period to keep the game deadlocked at zero.

The second period saw the game become more physical as the Eagles and Novas were pressing to get that all important first goal.  Both teams each had a powerplay opportunity, but both penalty units were up to the task.  The game remained scoreless after 2 periods.  It looked like it might take just one goal to win the game.

Just 1 minute into the 3rd period, Logan came up big again as she stopped a redirected shot with a quick glove save.  Minneapolis continued to press the attack, and their efforts finally paid off as they broke through to take a 1-0 lead 2:45 into the period.  With 6:31 left in the contest, Kristen Dellich stole the puck at the T-G blueline and went in on a breakaway.  Again, the Novas goaltender came up big and preserved their slim lead.  The Eagles continued to pepper the net, as Amelia Vosen and Allison Parnell had a 2 on 1 opportunity turned away at the 14:28 mark.  It looked as though T-G might not solve Kellie Winchell tonight.  The Eagles pulled their goaltender with 1:12 to go as they continued to apply pressure.  With just 29 seconds remaining in the period, Molly Adam fed the puck to Amelia Vosen who found Maddy Javorina in the slot.  Maddy buried the puck to tie the game at 1 to send the game into overtime.  For Maddy, it was her 3rd goal of the season.

Both teams had a couple of great chances in the extra session, but neither team could convert.  The game ended in a 1-1 draw.  Shots for the game were 27-24 in favor of Minneapolis.

T-G will next travel to Blaine to face conference rival Irondale at 3:30pm on Saturday.
