Nicole Schammel's 5 point night leads Wingers

The 3rd ranked Red Wing Wingers showed why they are one of the top ranked teams in the state.  Linemates Nicole Schammel and Emily Stegora combined for 9 points in leading the Wingers over the Eagles 6-2.

Red Wing got off to a quick start scoring just 2:07 into the contest when both Schammel and Stegora got behind the T-G defense to convert a 2 on 0 break.  The Winger duo struck again at the 8:00 mark to put Red Wing up 2-0.  The Wingers would add a powerplay goal before the end of the period, taking a comfortable 3-0 lead into the first intermission.  Shots in the period were 12-4 in favor of the visitors.

The Eagles started the second period down a man and Red Wing made them pay, scoring their second powerplay goal of the night to increase their lead to 4-0.  At 4:34 of the period, T-G had their second powerplay opportunity of the night and they made the most of it, as Allison Parnell scored her team leading 5th goal of the season on a rebound.  The assists went to Maddy Javorina and Molly Adam.  The goal seemed to energize the Eagles as their play picked up, but they could not draw any closer.  The Wingers added a pair of goals later in the period to increase their lead to 6-1.  Just 15 seconds after Red Wing's last goal, T-G answered on a passing play from Laura Minkoff to Katessa Archer to Amelia Vosen, who buried the puck in the back of the net for her second goal of the season.  The Eagles found themselves down 6-2 heading into the third period.

The final period saw neither team able to sustain much of an attack as there was no scoring.  Shots for the game were 34-25 in favor of the Wingers.  Red Wing improved their record to 7-0-0, while T-G evened their record at 2-2-1.

The Eagles will next host unbeaten Dodge County at Parade Ice Garden on Saturday at 7:30pm.
