Freshman Allison Parnell stars in home opener

In the Eagles home opener, the game became a tale of 2 halves.  What started out as a promising afternoon ended with a disappointing tie to Simley 3-3.

T-G was dominating in the first period, winning 13 of 16 faceoffs and outshooting the Spartans 11-4.  On the Eagles first powerplay opportunity of the season, freshman Amelia Vosen found fellow freshman Allison Parnell in front of the net to score the first T-G goal of the season and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead just 3:35 into the contest.  About 6 minutes later, Captain Kristen Dellich notched her first goal of the season from Allison Parnell and Abby Huber.  The period ended with T-G up 2-0, and it seemed like the Eagles were on their way to their first victory of the season.

The second period continued with solid play by the Eagles.  After Logan Knip made a great save, the rebound found its way to a Simley stick in front.  As the Spartan player let her shot go into a seemingly empty net, T-G defensemen Katessa Archer dove across the crease and deflected the shot from finding the back of the net.  Little did anyone know at the time how important this would be to the outcome of the game.  Four minutes later, Allison Parnell won the draw deep in the T-G zone and went coast to coast beating Simley goaltender Emma Tschida to increase the Eagle lead to 3-0.  It seemed the period would end with T-G comfortably in front.  With about 5 minutes remaining, the Spartans turned up the pressure.  About two minutes later, their efforts paid off as Luken Muller got Simley on the scoreboard.  T-G went into the second intermission ahead 3-1, but the Spartans had the momentum.

Simley had the better of play in the third period, and the Spartans closed the gap to 1 goal just 2:18 into the period.  At the 7:53 mark, Luken Muller scored the tying goal for Simley unassisted.  The period would end with both teams deadlocked at 3, with an 8 minute overtime period to come.

In the overtime period, there was not much flow as both teams were unable to mount a sustained offensive attack.  The game ended in a 3-3 tie despite the Eagles having an edge in shots for the contest at 29-25.

T-G will next travel to take on the Rogers Royals on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
