Nicole Schammel said the Red Wing girls hockey team didn’t want to take any game for granted and it showed in a 9-0 blowout of Waseca in the semifinals of the Section 1A tournament Saturday at Prairie Island Arena in Red Wing.

Schammel, a sophomore, scored six goals to lead the Wingers. Senior Elle Anderson and junior Paige Haley also scored in the victory.

“The opportunities just came to me,” Schammel said. “It could have happened to anyone.”

Red Wing scored three goals in the first period, five in the second period and Anderson added the final goal in the third period.

The Wingers face the winner of Northfield/New Prague Thursday in Owatonna.
