The five finalists for the Jori Jones Award have been named.
The award is given to the state’s top senior goaltender. This year’s finalists are Mallory Hartl (Moose Lake Area), Ida Huber (Dodge County), Layla Hemp (Minnetonka), Taylor Kressin (Moorhead) and Zoe Rimstad (Academy of Holy Angels). Three of the five goalies — Huber, Kressin, and Rimstad — will be participating in the state tournament next week at the Xcel Energy Center.
The five finalists were chosen by a panel of high school and college coaches from a list of 10 semifinalists.
This year’s Semifinalists also included: Nora Hannan (Edina), Ashlyn Hazlett (Minnetonka), Reese McConnell (Edina), Jayda Moyer (Albert Lea), and Kaydence Roeske (River Lakes).
This year’s finalists have combined for 5,963 minutes, 78 wins, faced 3,036 shots, made 2,876 saves, have a combined 1.33 goals against average and a combined .947 save percentage. Four of the five finalists have committed to play Division I hockey. Two are from Class AA schools and three are from Class A schools.
The 2025 Jori Jones Finalists:
Mallory Hartl has played in 121 games for Moose Lake Area and has a career 65-53-4 record with 19 shutouts. She has a career save percentage of .934. This season she logged 1,227:26 minutes, won 11 games and faced 934 shots and made 878 saves for a 2.24 goals against average. She had a save percentage of .940, and recorded four 50-plus save games this season. She will play next year at Providence.
Layla Hemp has been a mainstay in goal for the Skippers for the past three seasons and this year won 16 games and posted a 0.92 goals against average and a .951 save percentage. In her career she has a 44-5-1 record with 18 shutouts and a .947 save percentage. She was also the starting goalie for the Team USA U18 squad who won a gold medal. She will play college hockey at the University of Minnesota.
Ida Huber leads the state in goals against average (0.83), save percentage (.958) and shutouts (11). She helped lead Dodge County to the state championship game a year ago and her and the Wilcats are headed back to state after a Section 1A championship earlier this week. In her career she has 78-37-4 record with 34 shutouts, ranking her third all time. She will continue her playing career at Long Island University.
Taylor Kressin helped lead Moorhead to the state tournament with a 27-save effort against defending Section 8AA champion Roseau. She has posted 1.47 goals against average and a .950 save percentage this season to go along with six shutouts. She posted 12 games this year with 30-plus saves and has 703 saves on the season. In her career she has an 84-29-2 record in her 119 games for Moorhead and a career .921 save percentage with 23 shutouts. She is currently uncommitted.
Zoe Rimstad has helped lead her team to a second straight state tournament appearance. She has a career 34-10-6 record, 12 shutouts and a .933 save percentage. She had six 30-save efforts this season and 528 saves overall. In the section final against South St. Paul she turned away 27 shots, including five in overtime to help the Stars to their second consecutive state tourney. She currently has a 13-6-3 record, 1.70 goals against average and .931 save percentage. She will continue her playing career at Lindenwood.
The award will be presented to the winner at the annual Ms. Hockey Banquet at the Saint Paul RiverCentre on Sunday, Feb. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Tickets to the event can be purchased HERE. The banquet is sponsored by the Minnesota Girls Coaches Association, the Minnesota Wild, and Tradition Companies. Chris Long of KSTP will emcee the event which will include guest speakers Gabby Billing of the Minnesota Wild and Madi Goldsworthy of Tradition Companies. The banquet also recognizes players and coaches who receive other individual and team awards.
Last year’s Jori Jones Award winner was Grace Zhan of Hill-Murray High School.
