Solid team game leads to victory

T-G continued the strong play they exhibited against Spring Lake Park, but today they were rewarded for their efforts.  The Eagles defeated the Fighting Saints 4-1 in their first home game of 2012.

T-G started out fast pressing the attack and controlling the play in the first period.  Laura Minkoff got the team on the scoreboard just 3:27 into the contest with her 5th goal of the season.  Although the Eagles outplayed St. Francis-North Branch for the period, the score remained 1-0 until the 15:53 mark when Katessa Archer scored her first goal of the season, with the assists going to Megan Dahl and Laura Minkoff.  Just 43 seconds later, T-G struck again when Madi Lacy lit the lamp for the 3rd time this season, with her linemates, Kristen Dellich and Captain Erin Cullen getting the assists.  The Eagles had a commanding 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The second period saw T-G continue to carry the play.  Midway through the period, the Fighting Saints took advantage of an Eagle penalty and Katie Sigfrinius' shot ended Brittany Fussy's bid for a shutout.  Although T-G enjoyed a shot advantage of 12-4 in the period, the score was 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

The Eagles changed up their lines for the final period, with the play becoming a little more up and down for both teams.  The only goal of the period came from T-G's leading goal scorer, Kristen Dellich, who notched her 8th of the season on the powerplay 13:39 into the period on a pretty passing play from Laura Minkoff and Kelsey Lyngdal.  Shots for the game were 33-15 in favor of the Eagles.

T-G will next take on the top ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights at the St. Louis Park Rec Center on Tuesday at 6:00pm.
