Nibbe made 15 saves in the victory.

“That was exciting to see,” Red Wing head coach Scott Haley said of Nibbe’s shutout. “Our team defense was really stellar. They were really excited to get her that shutout.”

Sophomore Nicole Schammel scored three goals for the Wingers (5-2, 2-0 Missota) and now leads the team with 13 goals in seven games. Sophomore Emily Stegora added a goal, her seventh of the season. Junior Paige Haley and freshman Reagan Haley each had two assists.

“We’re happy we got away with a win,” Scott Haley said. “Holy Angels played a pretty high intensity game. We were able to play a ton of kids, which is great.”

Had Red Wing not hit the goalpost a number of times in the game it could have extended the lead, Scott Haley said. The Wingers have enough offense to win any game but the defensive play against Holy Angels was encouraging, he said.

The Wingers play again Thursday against Farmington in Red Wing on youth appreciation and pack the rink night. The Wingers have never beaten the two-time defending conference champion Tigers.
