University of Minnesota, the nation’s number one ranked women’s college hockey team,
to take on Minnesota State Mankato in Hall of Fame Game Dec. 7 in Prior Lake

The nation’s number one ranked women’s NCAA Division I hockey team, the University of Minnesota (12-1-1), will battle WCHA foe Minnesota State Mankato (6-6-2) in the annual U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women’s Face-Off Classic at the Dakotah! Ice Center in Prior Lake on Saturday, Dec. 7, 3:30 p.m. CST.

The Dakotah! Ice Center is located adjacent to Mystic Lake Casino Hotel and is home to Prior Lake-Savage Hockey Association and Prior Lake High School teams.

“Our association and community are incredibly excited for the opportunity to host these teams in the game,” said Prior Lake-Savage Hockey Association President Paul Emerson. “The atmosphere will be electric with some of the best hockey players in the world on our ice.”

In addition to the college game, there will be a girl’s high school game between Prior Lake against Rosemount and a girl’s 12UA & 12UB tournament. Follow PLSHA on Facebook or Instagram for the latest tournament updates.

The college game will raise awareness for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum in Eveleth, Minnesota along with bringing women’s Division I hockey to a local community.

“Any time you can witness a group of people at the caliber of these athletes, it’s hard not to be inspired,” said Emerson. “The energy and excitement will be infectious. We absolutely expect more girl’s and their families to begin to play this game we love and so passionately support because of the upcoming match-up.”

There are many exciting events planned for game day including a ceremonial puck drop featuring Rebecca Crooks-Stratton, secretary/treasurer of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Sheldon Bryant of Smoke Signals.

Several Hall of Famers will be introduced between periods, plus Spirit of Life Award winner Matt Olson will be in attendance. 1980 Olympian Buzz Schneider along with 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Natalie Darwitz and Museum Board Members will assist in the post-game trophy presentation.

Between periods there will be a mite and sled game showcasing players from Prior Lake-Savage Hockey Association. Team pep bands will play during the game, and commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase. Select players from both teams will sign autographs after the game is completed.

Game proceeds will go to Community Action Partnerships of Scott, Carver and Dakota counties plus Greater Mankato Area United Way.

Tickets for the game are cash only sales and are $10 for adults and $5 for students (college and below).  They are only available for purchase at Dakotah! Ice Center prior to game day as well as the day of the game.  Fans are encouraged to purchase presale tickets.

Smoke Signals TM – Charitable Car Shows/Community Events is a sponsor of the event.  Parents and players from Prior Lake-Savage Hockey Association and Prior Lake High School will be volunteering at the game.
