Bears Defeat Crookston 3-0

The Pirates arrived at Crookston Sports Center at 2 a.m. Saturday following their win against Brainerd/Little Falls. Less than 12 hours later they were back on the ice to face White Bear Lake.

"I could see it in the players' eyes that they were tired so it was the coaching staff’s job to get the girls fired up," Coach Perreault said. "Once the puck dropped we realized this was going to be a faster tempo game than the night before. The difference in the game was special teams. They ended up getting a shorthanded goal and we had chances on the power play that we didn't capitalize on. We haven't had a lot of practice time with special teams so we will look sharper in future games."

Kristi Longendyke scored two goals to lead White Bear Lake in the shut out of Crookston.

Pirate eighth grade goalie Lexie Cormican had 17 saves in her first career varsity start. White Bear Lake's Angie Hall had 15 saves.

"Lexie played very well for the Pirates in net," Perreault said. "She played 12U hockey last season so we wondered about her ability to make that jump. I thought she looked very comfortable and it will be difficult to keep her out of the varsity line up."

Crookston was 0 for 6 on the power play.
