Tim Morris honored with inaugural Brano Stankovsky Award

Minnesota Girls’ Hockey Coaches Association (MGHCA) Executive Director Tim Morris was honored with the inaugural Brano Stankovsky Award today at the annual Ms. Hockey Awards Banquet at the St. Paul RiverCentre.

In honor of Brano Stankovsky, long-time coach at The Blake School, the award is presented to an individual who has been involved in the Minnesota Girls’ Hockey Coaches Association and the many programs it offers for the advancement of girls’ high school hockey in Minnesota.

Currently an assistant coach with the Blaine High School girls’ hockey team, Morris was a long-time head coach at Eden Prairie, leading the Eagles to Class AA state championships in 2006 and 2008. As Executive Director of the MGHCA, Morris has been in charge of numerous programs that are offered for high school players since the inception of girls’ hockey in Minnesota.

Cheryl Mechelke - 2021 Brano Stankovsky Award Recipient

Cheryl Mechelke has been active for many years in her various roles in the Minnesota Hockey HP programs. She has helped many high school athletes through the programs she has been involved with over the years. Among the many positions she has held over the years, the HP 15 Program Director position has been the most influential in getting girls high school players recognized by college recruiters. Below is a partial list of her activities as they relate to girls hockey programs in Minnesota:

  • Youth Ice Scheduler for District 10
  • District 10 Board member
  • 10U Girls Coordinator
  • 14U Girls Coordinator
  • Assistant GM for District 10 HP 15 girls program
  • Started the 14U Girls Fall Program
  • Started HP 15 Tier 1 14U Girls Fall League
  • Administered Girls 15U Tier 1 and Tier 2 league (3 years)
  • Program Director for 15u Spring Festival and Summer Camp
  • Helped start 16U Premier Prep League with MGHCA

Started 14U Girls Tier 1 NIT tournament in fall (2020)
